Eri Kokei (Eri Kookei 江里康慧(えり こうけい)
Born in September 1943 in Kyoto.
His father was the master carver Eri Soohei 江里宗平.
Learned Buddhist carving from Matsuhisa Horin.
He travels a lot to temples all over Japan to study and repair old statues.
He also travels abroad to study Buddha statues in other counties.
His motto is "One carving knife and three prayers"
一刀三礼の心.
His wife Sayoko is a "living national treasure" for her work in restoring the art of cutting gold decoration for statues of the Heian period (kirikane 截金(きりかね.
