Born 1956 in Kyoto. Learned Buddhist sculpture after being inspired at age 13 by statues from Matsumoto Myokei.
Studied with Myokei since 1974 and received the name "Myogen 明玄", with the same Chinese character MYOO 明 as his master, in 1980.

"When I think that people use the statues I carve as an object of their religious veneration in a temple, then my responsibilities are so big, but I also feel proud and honored to do this kind of work."

In 1981 he carved the statue of Fudo Myo-O for the temple Saimyo-Ji (Saimyooji 最明寺) in Tokushima Town, Shikoku. He also made many more statues for this temple, famous for its bush clover flowers.
